Former Maharashtra CM And present  Union science and technology minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is critical after his Kidney and Liver Failed. He is on Life Support System at   Global Hospital Chennai where he was shifted from Breach Candy Hospital in a critical condition.  Deshmukh  is accompanied by his wife Vaishali and son Amit to Chennai.
“We are planning a liver transplant after stabilizing his vital parameters,” the doctor attending to him at Chennai’s Global Hospital said.”He is now on a ventilator. His kidneys are failing. We are evaluating him to see if he is fit enough for a transplant,” .  Doctors at the hospital said that Dr Mohamed Rela, liver transplant surgeon, who has performed more than 1,200 liver transplants is expected to perform Deshmukh’s transplant surgery.
The 67-year-old former Maharashtra chief minister was flown to Chennai for treatment under the care of Dr Mohammed Rela. said a doctor requesting anonymity.
His actor-son Riteish Deshmukh has expressed willingness to donate a part of his liver to his ailing father. For this, doctors will have to certify that the tissues match. According to transplant rules, the surgery will have to be cleared by an authorization committee headed by the Tamil Nadu director of medical education. “We have not ruled out a cadaver transplant either. We will put him on the wait-list. But that is only after he stabilises,” said another doctor
The 67-year-old Deshmukh, ailing since some time with abdominal pains, was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital last week for what was described as “a routine check-upâ€.
Official sources said that since the past few months, Deshmukh, a former Maharashtra chief minister, has been taking light assignments to avoid strain on account of his health condition.
Apart from holding the charge for Science and technology ministry in the union government Vilasrao Deshmukh also holds the charge for micro, small and medium enterprises and earth sciences in the government. Mr. Deshmukh comes from Latur district in Marathwada region of Maharashtra where he started his political career at the grass root level. Mr.Deshmukh was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra twice and earlier held charge of the heavy industries ministry at the centre.
