Aniruddha Guha says, Ek Tha Tiger is similar in some ways — it’s a film that presents Salman as a larger-than-life, superhero-esque secret agent. There’s action, music and a plot that is tailored to satiate Khan fans looking to get off on his antics.
According to him, Kabir Khan treats the film like a stylised Hollywood thriller, never getting into graver issues, but using the set-up as a tool to regale. His plot takes the characters to some of the most exotic locales around the world ala James Bond, each of them woven into the screenplay. Ireland is where Tiger and Zoya meet, before reuniting in Turkey and then taking off to Cuba.
Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated the film 4.5 stars out of 5 and commented “There’s no denying that Salman’s charisma has resulted in a mind-blowing, astounding, never-seen-before start at the ticket window, but the film’s content will sustain it thereafter.
Komal Nahata remarks that Salman Khan is good as Tiger except that his expressions can seem a bit blank at times. Katrina Kaif is lovely as Zoya and smoothly carries off her bubbly and emotional scenes. Though Ranvir Shorey doesn’t have much screen time as Tiger’s comrade Gopi, he is wonderful in his role.
NDTV rated he film 3.5 out of 5 stars, praising the screenplay and romance and commenting, “Ek Tha Tiger isn’t what one whould rate as great cinema, but it isn’t just harmless fun. Iit distances itself appreciably from the established norms of the action-packed Salman Khan movies, and makes enough sense for the most part to blow away the air of scepticism.”
Zee News gave the film a 3.5 out of 5, praising the romance, music and action but saying, “Ek Tha Tiger does entertain you to an extent but also compels you to wonder if you truly want to ridicule your intelligence.”
