Why Geetika Sharma had to quit her job in Dubai based Airlines ?

Geetika SharmaGeetika Sharma, who committed suicide had to quit her job in a Dubai based Airline Company. According to her  brother Ankit,  Former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda had visited his residence and admitted to having sent a “forged letter” purportedly in the name of a Gurgaon Station House Officer to the Dubai-based Airline Company where she had joined after the MDLR Airlines stopped operations. The letter alleged that she had an outstanding loan in India.

“He apologised to my mother and then took my family for a trip to Shirdi,” said Ankit Geetika’s Brother. The family alleged that it was because of the letter that Geetika had to quit her job and come back to India.

In the FIR registered under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) and Sector 506 (criminal intimidation) read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code, Geetika’s mother Anuradha alleged that she had called up Mr. Kanda on August 4 but he did not answer. When he later called her from another number, she enquired from him about a previous call made by Ms. Chadha, asking about the papers which Geetika was supposed to sign. To this, Mr. Kanda allegedly asked Anuradha to send her daughter to his office to sign those papers. The police are trying to ascertain the nature of those documents.

Anuradha has in the FIR said that Mr. Kanda had sponsored Geetika’s MBA course which she was pursuing after she left his company in June.

Sources also say that Geetika Sharma held a top post in the management and had accompanied Kanda during his visits to Goa. “She was at the level of a director. Everyone knew of her close connection with Kanda and they travelled to Goa on a few occasions together. Initially, she was based at Mint Club Casino in a five star resort at Arpora and later was overseeing affairs at Mint Cruise Casino,” sources said. MDLR had then bought over the offshore Casino Rio owned by the Leela Group and renamed it Mint Cruise Casino.

“I’m ending myself today because I’m shattered inside. My trust has been broken. And I’m being cheated. Two people responsible for my death are Aruna Chadha and Gopal Goyal Kanda. Both of them have broken my trust and have misused me for their own benefits. They have ruined my life and now they are trying to sabotage my family members,” Geetika wrote in her suicide note.

P Karunakaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police(North-West), said they have now added Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC in the case which was registered on Sunday. Police had earlier registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kanda on the basis of the suicide note

A team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) began its probe into the incident with a visit to Geetika’s house. After a preliminary inquiry, yesterday, the NCW will further probe the matter today.
