Volvo V40 Country Crossover, the recently unveiled model at Paris Auto Expo would be available in India by March 2013 a retail price ranging between 26 and 28 Lakhs. The product would directly compete with Mercedes B-Class, Audi Q3 and the BMW X1.
It  is expected to be Volvo India’s entry level model and that signifies a sub 30 lakh rupee price tag.
After paving the way for a totally new segment with the V70 Cross Country when it was launched in 1997, Volvo is looking at starting a new chapter with the all-new Volvo V40 Cross Country almost 15 years later.
Although elegant in appeal and style the Cross Country mind you is a far more rugged and sportier version of the original V40 model and features unique details such as silver roof rails, 19-inch alloy wheels, a honeycomb mesh grille and upright day-running lights, a contrasting rear bumper and integrated skid plates that set it apart visually from the toned down standard version of the V40 model series.
The three turbo diesel engines are the D2, D3 and D4 units. While the D2 engine is a 1.6 Liter-4 cylinder unit good for 115 Bhp-270 Nm, this engine won’t be available for the Indian car market. What India is expected to instead get is the D3 and the D4 turbo diesel engines which are 2 Liter-4 cylinder units that produce much more power and torque. While the D3 engine pumps out 150 Bhp-350 Nm, the D4 unit is the range topper with 177 Bhp-400 Nm. The D3 and D4 engines will be mated to 6 speed automatic transmissions, when launched in India.
The top end T5 engined Volvo V40 Cross Country will get the all wheel drive option while the rest of the line up will have to make do with a front wheel drive. Volvo will also offer hill hold and hill descent control on the top end T5 AWD variant.
The Start-Stop system will be standard on all engine options. Since we’re talking Volvos here, rest assured that the V40 Crossover will be loaded to the gills with safety features like the Pedestrian Airbag Technology, Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, City Safety system which incorporates automatic braking, Collision Alert, Bending Xenon Headlamps and many other features apart from the standard airbags, ABS, ESP and traction control features.
Volvo’s V40 was recently adjudged the safest car by Euro NCAP. Â A regular V40 with a firmer suspension, lowered ground clearance and aggressive styling kit defines the 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design.
An exclusive Rebel Blue colour makes the overall package all the more alluring. Volvo though haven’t boosted the power of the V40 R-Design and it still comes with the regular 115PS diesel and 254PS petrol engines.
Volvo’s racing wing, Polestar Black R has tuned the suspension with stiffened shock absorbers, sways and springs. The overall chassis has been lowered by a good 10mm with the help of the Sport package
