Betting big on mapping services, cellphone maker Nokia is aiming to expand its location services business by tying up with new partners, a top company executive said on Thursday.
“We have already tied up with Yahoo, Bing, Amazon.com, MapQuest, T-Mobile, Pioneer and automobile companies. We are looking for more,” Nokia India director and head of smart services Vipul Mehrotra said.
The handset major, which possesses maps for close to 200 countries, currently has over 80,000 partners worldwide to help it update its mapping technology.
In India, maps are available for over 4000 cities with over 7 million points of interest across the country.
“These points of interest include hospitals, restaurants, shopping malls etc,” said Mehrotra.
He said the company was planning to expand its live traffic services on its smart phones in the country.
“Presently only Mumbai and Delhi have live traffic facility, which we expect to expand to other cities so that the user can get the exact information of time required to reach a particular location as per the daily traffic conditions,” he added.
