Gopal Goyal Kanda, the minister-Businessmen of Haryana who is under judicial custody since August has tremendous influence on the Legislative, Bureaucratic and Judicial Structure of our country. Recently, a Delhi High Court Judge P.K. Bhasin withdrew himself from hearing the Geetika Sharma Suicide case in which Kanda is the prime accused.
Justice Bhasin recused himself without citing any reason and posted the matter for Nov 6 before another bench.
Kanda had Thursday moved the high court seeking bail, challenging the trial court order that dismissed his bail plea.
Geetika, 23, died on the night of Aug 4-5 at her house in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area.
Her two suicide notes named Kanda and his employee Aruna Chaddha, a former official in Kanda’s now-defunct MDLR Airlines where Geetika had worked.
Both denied any involvement in the suicide.
Meanwhile, a city court Friday extended the judicial custody of Kanda and Chaddha till Nov 9 after Kanda’s counsel requested to direct prosecution to supply some documents for leading his defence.
The trial court Sep 20 had rejected Kanda’s bail plea and observed that the investigation was at an initial stage and the release of the accused on bail could hamper the investigation.
The court also asked police to probe if there was a link between the former flight attendant’s death and her pregnancy.
Kanda was forced to resign as minister of state for home and urban local bodies in Haryana in the face of public outcry over Geetika’s suicide.
