Bulandshahr: Mehwish, the widow Abdul Hakeem is being pressurized by Administration and few local politicians not to call it an honor killing. Abdul Hakeem was shot dead because he married a girl who was not from his Cast despite it being against her family’s wishes.
Talking to media persons in this Uttar Pradesh district, Mehwish, reiterated that her husband was killed by the five people already named in the FIR.
Although the district administration has proposed an arm licence for her, she said she was not inclined to buy weapon and her priority was to fight for the justice for her slain husband.
Meanwhile, a leader from Arvind Kejriwal’s recently-launched Aam Aadami Party (AAP) visited the village and lent his full support to the victim.
Talking to media persons, Sanjay Singh said Hakim and Mehwish had written 48 times to the civil and police administration of Bulandshahr for security. The Allahabad High Court had also given direction in this regard for the safety and the security of the couple, but the state government had failed them.
Hakim was shot dead on Nov 22 on the Grand Trunk Road. Of the five men mentioned in the first information report (FIR), three accused have been arrested and one – Salman, decribed as the prime accused – was held Thursday. One assailant is still untraced and on the run.
Mehwish had claimed that the Bulandshahr police had misled the media and other official channels by denying that Hakim was murdered for family honour.
In her earlier correspondence with police and other government officials, Mehwish and her husband had categorically claimed that they could be eliminated for the sake of honour and a reward of Rs.50,000 was announced on the death of her and her husband. And only after that they appeared on “Satyamev Jayate”, a television program hosted by Aamir Khan.
