Ponty Chadha is one of those names in the Business Fraternity which saw a meteoric rise in wealth in a very short span of time.
Gurpreet Chadha nicknamed Ponty was the managing Director of Chadha Group which is having a turn over of Rs. 25 Billion  and interests in diversified sectors like,  liquor, real estate, sugar, poultry, film production and exhibition.
The personal wealth of Ponty Chadha estimated to be above Rs 50,000 Crores, leading to speculations about his real source of income and his political nexus.
Ponty Chadha used to sell snacks with his father in front of a country-made liquor shop. The family’s fortunes took a turn when his father Kulwant Singh Chadha managed to get a license to run a liquor shop.
Ponty Chadha had the sole distribution rights for liquor in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He also had business interests in real estate, sugar mills and film production.
Ponty along with his brothers  Rajinder Singh Chadha and Hardeep Singh Chadha  ran the Chadha Group, popularly known as Wave Inc. The group operated a popular chain of multiplexes under the Wave brand.

Earlier this year, Income Tax officials had raided the Centrestage Mall in Noida, Â owned by Ponty Chadha, over alleged tax evasion.
In 2005, during the reign of chief minister Mulayam Singh in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Chadha won statewide contracts to supply ready to eat food for poor, underweight or otherwise malnourished children under the world’s largest child-health programmes, the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
Ponty Chadha was later granted the sole distributorship for liquor under the Mayawati regime in Uttar Pradesh, thus ruling over the liquor business in the state.
