Two students of a polytechnic in Himachal Pradesh were suspended and a ragging case was slapped on them for torturing a classmate, an official said Thursday.
Rishi Dutta, a first-year student of automobile engineering in Government Polytechnic in Sundernagar town of Mandi district, complained to the college authorities which suspended them Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Rana told IANS.
He said over phone that the accused were presented in a juvenile court, which granted them bail.
The victim, who was staying in a rented accommodation, had wounds and burn marks on the body, he said.
“The victim has been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla for counselling,” Rana said.
The state government has implemented stringent anti-ragging laws after the death of medical student Aman Kachroo in Kangra district in 2009. The four senior students who ragged Kachroo were sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment.
