Chennai: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India’s premier defence research organisation, has set up a research and innovation centre at Indian Institute of Technoogy-Madras (IIT-M) Research Park to pursue directed research, an official said Friday.
The centre was inaugurated by V.K.Saraswat, scientific advisor to the defence minister, and the secretary, defence research and development, here Friday.
According to DRDO, the research and innovation centre is for giving new impetus to pursue directed research in close association with academia, industry and research scholars.
The initial focus areas would be semiconductor device, tracked vehicle system, speech recognition, modelling and simulation of microstructure of materials, piezo electric devices, nano-aluminium based solid propellants, combustion in stability in gas turbine engine, silicon nano, photonics and chip design for avionics.
The projects will be researched in collaboration with faculty members of IIT-M.
According to the DRDO, the success of this model research and innovation centre is likely to give birth to many more centres at various reputed institutions.
