An Initiative by Google India and Hosting Company Hostgator has led several shops of Chandni Chowk, Delhi to get an online presence with a website.

This is a part of IndiagetOnline Project in which they offer completely free website to all shop owners  and businesses from any part of India.

As part of this special project, Google India and HostGator went to each shop in Chandni Chowk and built over 2,500 free websites for businesses operating from the market.

In a statement Google India says, A little over a year ago, we started an initiative called India Get Your Business Online asking Indian small and medium business (SMBs) to get their businesses online. In the last 13 months since the launch of the campaign, over 150,000 websites for small and medium businesses across 7,850 cities in India have been already created along with our partner HostGator. And today, we are excited to bring India’s oldest SMB market – Chandni Chowk online on www.chandnichowknowonline.in.

“The Internet is becoming an engine of economic growth and is expected to contribute over US $ 100 billion (Rs.5 lakh crore) by 2015 to India’s GDP. Due to initiatives such as these, small and medium businesses are embracing the Internet to increase their competitiveness in the global economy,” said Union Minister of Communications and IT and Chandni Chowk MP, Kapil Sibal, while launching the initiative.

“This initiative from Google has provided all Chandni Chowk businesses with a professional website, which will now make it easier for customers to find us online and help us to grow our businesses,” said Pradeep Jain, spokesperson of the Kinari Bazaar Gota Zari Association of Chandni Chowk.

We partnered with HostGator to talk to individual business owners of almost every outlet in Chandni Chowk about the increased exposure the Internet would bring to their businesses.  Today 2500 businesses from Chandni Chowk have free websites made under the ‘India Get Your Business Online’ campaign and all of them are listed on www.chandnichowknowonline.in!

India has over 47 million small medium businesses and even today only a few lakh have a website or some sort of a web presence. If you are small business owner or even startup we encourage you to explore the online platform to take your business to new levels and if you need help we are always a click away on www.indiagetonline.in.

“With over 137 million Internet users in the country, the Internet is taking off in India and more and more users are looking for local information online, and efforts like these will go a long way in helping small and medium businesses get started on the Internet and gain from the Internet economy in the next few years,” said Rajan Anandan, Vice President and Managing Director, Sales & Operations, Google India.
