Hyderabad: St.Jude Medical, Inc., a global medical device company has announced the launch of the Ellipse implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) in India.
The ICDs are advanced implantable cardiac devices that treat potentially lethal, abnormally fast heart rhythms (ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation) that often lead to sudden cardiac death (SCD).
Some of the first implants recently took place at the Fortis Escorts Hospital in New Delhi by Aparna Jaswal, senior consultant cardiologist, according to a company release.
The Ellipse ICD provides the benefits of advanced features and power in the industry’s smallest high-energy ICD. The design of the new ICD inspired by feedback from more than 200 physicians from around the world.
The physician-inspired shape is unlike any currently available, with each of the enhancements designed to increase patient comfort or make the device easier to implant, said the company which has its India headquarters here.
