Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was organized at Kochi, Kerala from January 7 to January 9 this year. In accordance to Tradition, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (Awards) 2013 have been given to notable Indians living abroad. The partial list is of awardees is presented below and shall be updated as we receive more information.
H E Mr. Rajkeswur Purryag , the President of the Republic of Mauritius. He was also the Chief Guest of 11th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2013. Mr. Purryag’s ancestors migrated to Mauritius from Patna, Bihar some 150 years back. Today they comprise majority of Mauritius population and the culture over there retains most of its Indian Values.
Narendra R Kumar, 60, a native of Kollam Kerala, is a doctor, specialising in otolaryngology (head and neck surgery), in Michigan in the United States.
He did his MBBS from Kerala in 1977 and settled in the US in 1982. He is currently president of American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.
Mohammed Rabeeh Karuvanthodi, Â a native of Malappuram district of Kerala, runs polyclinics in the Middle East.
He first started clinics in Saudi Arabia and has now expanded into other Middle Eastern countries.
Bava Haji Pandalingal, Â is president of the Indian Islamic Centre in Abu Dhabi– the only recognised organisation for Indian Muslims in the city in the United Arab Emirates.
“The centre works for the welfare of Indian society and does a lot of charitable world,” he said.
Patricia Maria Rozario is the Only Women who won this Award. She is settled in the UK and has won the award for her contributions in the field of music.
