Patna: Center has assured Bihar that it would arrange for Coal Lnkages for the Barauni thermal power plant.
This plant needs 2.65 Million Tonnes of Coal annually in view of its proposed expansion and running with current capacity.
Union Minister for Coal, Sri Prakash Jaiswal revealed this in a function here at Patna last evening. Â He also assured for allocating a separate Block of Coal for Bihar.
As per proposed expansion plans, two new units of 250 MW each would be setup at Barauni and the two existing units of 110 MW each shall be revamped.
The two units of 250 MW would replace 42-year-old Polish make 2x50MW thermal power generating units (now totally defunct), Â functional till 1995-96. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has already declared this unit retired as they could not have been revived.
The Renovation of Barauni Thermal Plant was scheduled to be finished by March 2013, but it has been delayed due to unavailability of Coal Linkages. Availability of coal linkage and environment clearance are the prerequisites for setting up any such unit. The land and water required for the project are already available at the Thermal Power.
