Patna: The School Teachers who were agitating  against Government found themselves in a weird situation when Police resorted to Baton-Charge, Canon-Balls and Tear Gas to control the mob. The Teachers were demanding Regularization of Jobs and Pay and equal Salary with their Government counterparts. In their terms,  it was right to equal pay for equal work
The Situation turned violent when over 5000 teachers, irked over police Baton-charge, torched two police jeeps and damaged over half-a-dozen buses and other vehicles, including that of a BJP legislator.
According to Spectators, the R-Block area, around 500 metres from the Assembly, where contractual teachers are holding protest dharna, turned into a virtual battle field witnessing violent clash between the protesters and the police.
Talking to Media persons, City SP of Patna  Jaykant said that the agitators torched two police vehicles while more than 10 vehicles have been damaged. Following stone pelting, tear gas shells were fired by the police and force used to control the agitators. Traffic was disrupted in many parts of the state capital.
In October 2012, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had declared that their demands for parity of salary with government teachers would not be met. He has said that if their demands are met, the state government would not be left with funds for developmental work.
