The Mystery behind Suicide of Delhi Gang Rape Accused Ram Singh

The Prime Accused of December 16 Gang Rape at New Delhi, Ram Singh has reportedly committed suicide. As per a statement issued by the Tihar Jail, Ram Singh was found hanging at 5.45 am.

Even before the news of his Suicide spread, people started alleging a foul play in the overall episode.  His Father, Mange Lal Singh,  totally refused to accept that Ram Singh Committed Suicide.

According to Mange Lal Singh, his son had serious injuries in one hand due to which he was unable to hang himself .   “He couldn’t have committed suicide with just one hand,” said the father who was speaking in a Delhi slum called Ravi Dass Colony where his son had lived.

Ram Singh had suffered from a substantial disability in his right arm, sustained after a bus accident for which he had sought compensation.

His Lawyer, V. K Anand  also supported Mange Lal Singh’s version of statement and called it a murder.

“My client did not commit suicide. I was in touch with him on a daily basis. If he had committed suicide then he would have left a suicide note. I demand an independent probe. There is no CCTV footage to prove he committed suicide. He was tortured so many times in the last two months.”, Anad was quoted saying.

His Mother Kalyani Devi was more emphatic towards her son. “He made a mistake — he admitted that to us — but even God forgives one mistake. He was not even given a chance to repent.”, Kalyani Devi was quoted saying.

This incident is more ironical, when all the Accused of Delhi Gang Rape Case were under Suicide Watch. They had stopped talking and interacting amongst themselves too.

Ram Singh was about 5 feet eight inches tall and weighed around 50 kg. He is said to have used a bucket to make up for the height difference to reach out to the window grill to which he attached the noose he rigged out of his clothes.  Ram Singh was not alone in the cell. Other inmates were present and a guard was also posted. But nobody came to know about it.

In Indian Prisons,  rapists are considered the worst offenders and are always taunted and harassed by other inmates. And given the outrage generated by their horrific act, the Delhi gang-rape accused were always, reportedly, targeted by other inmates.
