With Italy making a U-Turn in the  Marines’ Case, Indian Political clan has been busy taking credit for their unpredicted return. Ruling UPA Minister Salman Khurshid called it their Diplomacy at work, while opposition gave the credit to the immense pressure it had relented on the Government.
External Affair Minister Salman Khurshid said in a speech in Lok Sabha, “we were informed through a diplomatic approach that the Government of Italy would be willing to send the two marines back to India as per its commitment”.
Needless to say that Supreme Court needs to be awarded for the tough stand it took over the Non-Return of the Marines and put the Italian Ambassador in a Deadlock .
Some credit also goes to Janta Party Leader Dr. Subramanian Swamy who persuaded Chief Justice of Supreme Court to take Suo Moto Decision on this case, which was a timely decision amid rumours of Italian Ambassador fleeing from India.
Whatever the Reason may be, this return of Marines has not been possible without some backstage deals. Indian Government has provided Italy with several assurances, only then Italy agreed to send them back.

Notwithstanding the pending proceedings, the Government has informed the Italian Government that the two marines will not be liable for arrest if they return within the time frame laid down by the Supreme Court of India, and shall once again be bound by the conditions contained in the order passed by the Court on 18th January 2013; and that, according to well settled Indian jurisprudence, this case would not fall in the category of matters which attract the death penalty, that is to say the rarest of rare cases.
This clearly means, Marines won’t be jailed like other Murderers, but will be treated in the Guest House of Italian Embassy, till the proceedings get over.
The Government has given a full assurance to Italy that they wont be awarded Death Sentences, despite the matter being under the purview of Supreme Court.
