India today launched National Internet Registry which would be the apex body for allocating Internet Resources across the country under the name of  Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN).
Resources such as Internet Protocol  Address (IPV4 and IPV6) would be allocated by the National Internet Registry in India. Basically,  it would have a chunk of IP Address under itself and it would maintain the database of the Allocation of IP Address. Previously, such role was carried out by Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) based in Brisbane, Australia which is also the Regional Internet Registry for this Region.
National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) would serve was the National Internet Registry of India.  NIXI was recognized by APNIC in March 2012 to become the NIR for the country after successful demo of the indigenous software and systems developed for the allocation and management of Internet resources. It is a major milestone towards setting up of Critical Internet Resource management function in the country.  NIXI is also the top Registrar of  .IN Top Level Domain.

It will encourage/promote activities related to research, education and training covering the areas of Internet Resources and its proliferation.
