The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will construct 140 cyclone shelters along the nine coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of 647 crore rupees by June 2015.
Addressing the media in Visakhapatnam yesterday, NDMA Member V.K. Duggal said, the Government of India has sanctioned 1500 crore rupees for constructing multipurpose shelters, roads and bridges and embankment along the low lying coastal areas in the country.
NDMA Rescue Force in-charge K.M. Singh said on the occasion that a total of 10 trained battalions, each comprising 1100 personnel, are prepared for action in case of any disaster or natural calamity. In Andhra Pradesh, one such battalion has been stationed in Guntur district.
