Patna, the State Capital has more Bus Stops than total number of Buses running on its roads. Patna has over 120 Bus Stops but only 45 registered buses ply on its roads.
One can have a look at such stops on either side of Bailey Road, Boring Road and Gandhi Maidan Area.
According to a report published in a local newspaper, neither Patna Municipal Corporation nor Transport Department has any idea of such large number of Bus Stops.
Surprisingly, most of the local Buses hardly stop at these Stops. With the huge density of hoardings and advertisement banners at these Stops, it becomes evident that these have been constructed for the sole purpose of Advertisement.
It is well understood that any outsider cannot construct Bus Stops on the Land owned by Patna Municipal Corporation. Further no private hoarding can be displayed alongside Roads without permission from Municipal Corporation. Usually, each such Hoarding costs over 1 Lakh Rupees monthly and is allocated through auctioning process. In such a scenario, ignorance of PMC Officials towards such Stops raises several Questions and triggers serious doubts.
