Patna: Now People have to pay Rs 5 for every single Plastic/Polythene Bag in Patna while buying items from shops. All Shopkeepers, Sellers and Vendors have been instructed by Patna Municipal Corporation to charge Rs 5 Extra for any Polythene bag given to the buyers, irrespective of the size of Polythene. This is part of the effort to make Patna Polythene free in coming years.
Shopkeepers have also been warned against the use of any polythene bag with thickness less than 40 microns. They will have to display the cost of polythene bag outside respective shops or store. Also, the manufacturing of polythenes of thickness less than 40 microns has also been banned in bihar.
According to the commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation, Kuldeep Narayan, the ministry of Environment under Central government has authorised Municipal Corporations to implement the ban on the usage of polythene in towns under Plastic Waste Management and Handling Rules 2011.
The use of polythene is one of the main reason behind logging off water inside sewers.
