Dumka: Pakur SPÂ Amarjit Balihar along with 6 other cops have been reported to be killed when Maoists attacked the Police Convoy in the Amrapada area under Dumka district of Jharkhand.
The Attack took place when the SP and his team were returning  after attending a meeting called by the area DIG Priya Dubey.
Maoists opened fire on the police convoy when it was passing through the Kathikund area. The gunfire was on when the reports last came in. Additional forces have been rushed to the spot, officials said.
Pakur is a small district carved out from the district of sahebganj in 28.01.1994. It is located in Santhal Pragana region of Jharkhand. The area is dominated by Santhal Tribe.
Naxal activities was almost unknown in this area, in the past, but since the opening of Coal Mines in mid 90’s the naxal have spread their tentacles in this area. They have a stronghold in Amarapara ps and Pakuria Ps of Pakur. Their spread in the area is mainly for the extraction of levy from the coal mines.
