India plans 19 new Nuclear Power Reactors by 2017

India plans to setup 19 new Nuclear Power Reactors during the 12th Five Year Plan period (2012-17) adding a net installed capacity of 18600 MW Power. These nuclear reactors would be Indigenous as well as Collaboration with Foreign Countries.

Presently India as 20 Nuclear Power Plant with a total installed generation capacity of 4780 MW while  seven nuclear power reactors are at various stages of construction/commissioning.  The new projects during the XII Five Year Plan are planned to be set up in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
