Mumbai Gang Rape brings back the memory of December 16

Mumbai : The Gang Rape of a Photo Journalist Girl in Mumbai has brought back the memories of the December 16 Gang Rape Case. This time it is a 23 year old Girl who was gang-raped  by 5 Men at  Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel when she was on an assignment, doing a story on old chawls in the city.

The Rape Victim has been admitted to Jaslok Hospital. According to Doctors treating her,  the Victim sustained several internal injuries but her condition is stable.

Dr Taran Gyanchandani, acting CEO of the hospital, said, “We are doing the needful … she is under strict observation. She is currently under the care of gynecologists”.

“She has gone through counseling. She is slightly depressed after the incident”, the CEO added.

The Police claims to have arrested one of the accused, while it has released the sketches of 5 of them.

The Incident occurred  around 8:30 PM on Thursday evening.  The Victim along with her Male Friend visited Shakti mills to take photographs. She was on an assignment doing a story on chawls and mills in Mumbai. They were then told by a group of five men that they would require permission to take pictures. On this pretext, the duo was taken to an area where the male colleague was tied up and the girl raped.

Protests

A group of BJP supporters, with black flags as well as BJP flags, gathered outside Mumbai’s Churchgate station to protest the rape of the photojournalist.

They were chanting, ‘Sonia jiski mummy hai, Woh sarkar nikami hai!’.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, BJP
This is a ghastly crime. Mumbai is a place where such incidents are rare. It has an image of a society that takes care of its women. Having said that, I am sure that the police are doing their best to apprehend those accused. So my only appeal is to the Mumbai police, to catch those responsible for this incident.

Najma Heptullah, BJP:

These people do not fear the law. I condemn this horrid crime. The government must take action. It is appalling that such an incident has taken place in a city like Mumbai which is considered relatively safe for women. How on earth do you expect girls to go out and carry on with their work?

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut slammed the Maharashtra government saying law and order in the state has failed miserably.

What are the intelligence doing? There is no law and order in Maharashtra.. Whether Pune or Mumbai.. even school girls are not safe in our city.. we keep saying it but the government doesnt accept it.. women in Mumbai are not at all safe,” Raut said.

MNS leader Raj Thackeray said that the Mumbai gangrape incident highlighted yet again, the fact that RR Patil is no longer fit to be state Home Minister.

“RR Patil wont quit, because Sharad Pawar has kept him there. RR Patil is Pawar’s dummy, he said.

Speaking further, Thackeray said “RR patil has nothing to do with Maharashtra. He doesn’t know the difference between the Mumbai postman and police. This man is shameless. Police do not what to do, for fear that they will be transferred.”

“All RR Patil does is give Pawar information. I request all mothers and sisters to send him boxes of bangles. Maybe then he will quit in shame”, he said.
