School Teachers in Bihar to get a Monthly Increment of ₹3000

Bihar Government has decided to give an increment of ₹3000 to 2.5 Lakhs contract teachers in various Schools under by State Education Ministry. At a State Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, it was decided that the hike would be effective from September 2013 and would benefit all Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary Teachers.

Following the hike, trained contractual teachers appointed by municipal corporation and panchayats would get  ₹11,000 per month while their untrained counterparts would receive  ₹10,500.

An announcement in this regard was made by Bihar Cabinet Secretary, Brajesh Mehrotra. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had announced this during his Speech on Independence Day 2013.

The teachers on contract with the Bihar government has been demanding the “right to equal pay for equal work”, since last year. They had organised a protest against Nitish Kumar last year after he had ruled out considering their demand.

Teachers of 205 madrasas would also get a similar hike. Over 2.25 lakh contractual teachers in the state have been agitating for regularization of their jobs and pay parity with regular teachers.
