Bloody communal Riots in Muzaffarnagar come to Halt

The Riot hit Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh is returning to normal. Curfew has been removed from all areas and the Army is also being withdrawn.

The Muzaffarnagar District Magistrate, Kaushal Raj Sharma said five additional paramilitary companies have been called to replace the Army.

With removal of curfew several unknown facts about the killings are coming out which are quite disturbing. A DNA Report says that AK 47 Assault Rifles were used in the killings, which poses several question marks over the prevailing law and order situation in the State.

The Riots killed at least 48 people  and injured more than 100  during the last 21 days. The actual figures might go high as more dead bodies get discovered.

The Riot is being probed by  one-member judicial commission composed of Justice Vishnu Sahay, a retired Allahabad High Court judge and would submit its report after 2 months.

There was incredible Religious harmony in the area before riots. An Indian Express Report cites man named Hassan quoting about in past.

“Two years ago, a wooden splinter had pierced my thigh several inches deep. I was falling in and out of consciousness because of the blood loss. Two Jat men from the village rushed me to the nearest dispensary. I needed more treatment so they took me in a tempo to Muzaffarnagar. They refused to leave until my wife came to the hospital. In gratitude, I provided wood, free of cost, for all Hindu cremations.” said Hassan.

Important Political Leaders have been touring the riot affected areas. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, along with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi visited the riot victims at Relief Camps.

However,  Jat Community regretted that they chose to meet only Muslims in the relief camps in Muzaffarnagar but ignored those from the majority community who have been equally affected by the communal clashes.

Ravinder Singh, father of Gaurav who along with his cousin Sachin was killed in a clash at Kawal says,  “So many people from our community were brutally butchered over the past few weeks with our meetings being hijacked. There are so many villages in this whole belt where so many jats have also left their villages due to fear and they are hiding at residences of their relatives or in other cities. However, the PM only comes and meets people in relief camps of Muslims. Hasn’t my son died in the same violence? ”

BJP  says that the visit of  Manmohan Singh,  Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to the violence-hit Muzaffarnagar district is nothing but “secular tourism on communal riots”.

“The wounds of the people cannot be healed by doing this. It is completely secular tourism on communal riots and nothing else,” BJP national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, whose tenure was comparatively better in terms of Communal clashes, says “The Centre must not delay in dismissing the Uttar Pradesh government and imposing President’s rule,” said Mayawati.

Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav blames external forces in inciting the riots.

“Whatever happened in Muzaffarnagar started a long time ago. Several incidents happened and if you look closely you will realise that some people were carefully planning this kind of violence,” Akhilesh was quoted saying.
