Patna: Social activist and Social Welfare Minister, Bihar, Ms. Parveen Amanullah was the sole representative to the conference on “Social Protection†from India at the G20 Summit hosted in Moscow on October 21-22, 2013. The conference brought together participants from G20 countries, international organizations and partner countries, representing beneficiaries of on-going programs in the area of social protection, food security and human resource development.
Bihar’s Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Parveen Amanullah, gave a power point presentation and an inspired speech which was very well received by the participants and won her accolades. She talked about “India’s and Bihar’s commitment to the cause of Social Protection as a necessary tool to make growth more pro-poor, to ensure that the fruits of growth and development reach all sections of society, which will also foster the path of further economic and social development, consolidating a more secure future for all.â€She spoke about a number of provisional, preventive, promotional and transformative measures being undertaken in India to mitigate poverty and vulnerability and gave real life examples of work done in Bihar towards achieving Social Protection. Ms. Amanullah stressed on Bihar’s mutli-pronged Social Protection Strategy which aims to protect and promote the rights of ultra-poor, beggars, women, children, older persons and persons with disabilities and importantly empower women with information, skills, and support networks so as to change the social health of the State.
The two-day Summit aimed at sharing best practices from across the world in the area of Social Protection and worked out recommendations and further possible steps for G20 in the area of development and implementation of the comprehensive approach to Social Protection.
