Three Men Charged in Surinder Singh Murder Case at Woodbury NJ

Woodbury (New Jersey): Three men have been charged in connection with the infamous Woodbury Murder Case in which an Indian man named Surinder Singh was shot dead. Surinder Singh worked as attendant at Garden State Fuel Station and was killed on August 25 in a failed robbery attempt at the station.

The convicts are Isaiah Williams, 24, Cordero Hodge, 22, and Jamell Pierce, 22. They have been charged by the Gloucester county prosecutor’s office in murder, robbery, and related offenses.

Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton said the three men drove to Garden State Fuel, on the 900 block of North Broad Street on Aug. 25, intending to rob the station. About 9 p.m., Hodge shot attendant Surinder Singh, 40, during a brief struggle.

Records show that Williams was released from state prison Aug. 20 on drug and theft charges, Pierce has convictions for resisting arrest and drug possession, and Hodge has a conviction for criminal restraint.

Paramjit Singh, his Cousin, who also works at the Fuel Station said that the family was happy about the arrests. “All the family is happy,” said Paramjit Singh, the weight of his family’s loss still plain on his face.

Surinder Singh immigrated from Ludhiana, Punjab about 15 years ago and lived in Woodbury with his mother and extended family.

He was the father of two girls, aged 2 and 9 months. His widow, Kirandeep, is in India with their children to see her parents, but the family will return.

The Fuel Station was owned by 2 Indians named Reddy Rathnaker and Arjun Goyal. They have built a memorial in his memory at the Station.
