Bihar Government has decided to set up a separate Anti-Terror Squad of Bihar Police. This development comes after the deadly Serial Bomb Blasts at Patna on Sunday which claimed 6 lives and the role of Indian Mujahideen in it became clear from investigation.
CM Nitish Kumar has even sought Centre’s help in establishing an anti-terror squad in the state.
“We have discussed the issue (blasts). We have to strengthen our anti-terror capabilities as Bihar has not witnessed any such major incident. But we need the Centre’s help. We need force and equipment. We have also decided to set up an anti-terror squad,” Nitish said talking to reporters last week.
He also raised this matter to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, during his meeting on Wednesday.
Reports say that the ATS would be headed by an inspector general (IG)-Rank officer and have two deputy inspector general (DIGs), four superintendents of police (SPs), additional SPs and deputy SPs, besides other support staff strength of 300.
The need of ATS has been aggravated by the fact that Bihar has become a terrorist haven due to its porous border with Nepal and proximity with Bangladesh.
The Government had also contemplated to setup the ATS after Bodh Gaya Blasts in July.
