Gurgaon: The most awaited Rapid Metro Rail of Gurgaon would open to commuters from November 14. The First Phase of Metro with a distance of 5.1 Km would be operational between Sikanderpur and DLF Phase 3 via a loop connecting Moulsari Avenue. Initially it would be 5 Trains of 3 coaches each, carrying  40,000-50,000  people per day on average, which is expected to touch 1 Lakh by 2014.
It is India’s first Privately held Metro, jointly promoted by  IL&FS Rail Ltd and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). The entire cost of the project ( about Rs 1100 Crores) has been borne by Private Players while the Haryana Government will provide right of way on leasehold basis in lieu of Annual Fees.
The Operation has been delayed by 10 Months and Officials are unwilling to extend the deadline. The formal inauguration would take place sometimes later.
“We have got the approval to roll out the first phase of the Rapid Metro on Thursday,” said Sanjeev Rai, MD and CEO of IL&FS.
The Maximum fare en route would be Rs 12 and the Smart Cards of Delhi Metro can be interchangeably used here.
There are 6 Stations covered in the Phase I of Rapid Metro viz. Sikanderpur, Phase II, Belvedere Towers, Gateway Towers, Moulsari Avenue, DLF Phase III. The total track length is 5.1 Km and it would take 13 minutes to cover the distance. Trains would be available at a frequency of 3-4 minutes.
The Metro would be operational from 0530 to 0030 hours. It is linked to Delhi Metro at Sikanderpur Metro station via 90x9m walkways.
The Tracks are laid under Unigauge system separated by 1435mm. The Train would be powered by 750V DC Supply,fed by a third rail track laid parallel to and in between the two tracks. The Maximum Speed of the Rapid Metro Rail would be 80 kmph, while the average speed is around 32 kmph.
There would be round-the-clock security for the Metro. CCTV Cameras would also be installed at Platforms and inside the Trains. While the Regular Security is being handled by Private Agencies, there would be separate Police Station at Sikanderpur interchange station. There would also be Women’s Help Desk at every Station, while a Toll Free Helpline  +91-124-2800028  for all  passengers would be operational for 24 hours.
For Safety, the Emergency Stop Plungers (ESP)  have been installed at every platform to halt the train in case of emergency.  There would be a ‘blue light station’ feature on  platforms to contact the operational control center.  Commuters can talk to the Driver using Press to Talk Button inside the Train.
