Bihar CM Nitish Kumar today laid the foundation of the 11.9 km long Elevated corridor between AIIMS Patna and Digha Ghat. It would be a high-speed and toll-free 4-lane corridor with cost estimated to be around Rs 1,289 Crores.
It would provide a very fast connectivity between NH 98, NH 30, NH 19 and Ganga Expressway. The Road would also simplify the journey of patients coming to Patna from various corners of the state as it would be congestion free.
It will have facilities like roadside furniture, street lighting, pedestrian facilities, rescue lane, traffic and medical aid post and noise barrier.
The Corridor would have 9.9km elevated roads while 2km would be along the embankment of Ganga. The Corridor would begin from NH30 near AIIMS Patna and shall join Ganga Path near Digha.
Gammon India, which has been awarded contract for most part of the corridor, says that the project would be completed before the deadline of October 2016.
This Road when linked to Digha-Didarganj Ganga Path and Patna-Bakhtiyarpur NH 30 would form a Ring Road outside Patna.
A Separate Road parallel to the Elevated Corridor, but at lower level is being constructed by National Highway Authority of India.
The Idea of this elevated Corridor was first conceived by CM Nitish Kumar in May 2012. Later Planning Commission of India provisioned finances for this project under Backward Region Grants Fund.
