The First Automatic Weather Station of Bihar was launched today in Patna by CM Nitish Kumar. These Stations would facilitate hourly data collection about Air Temperature, Wind Direction, Wind Speed, Relative Humidity, Astronomic Pressure, Rainfall etc. from different parts of Bihar.
This would ensure timely and accurate weather predictions which is crucial in Disaster Management, Agriculture and Engineering Operations. In the first phase 50 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) would be established. In the second phase, a Weather Station would be established in all 484 blocks in the State.
The State Meteorological Center also aims to develop an Early Warning System using the data from these Automated Weather Stations.
The province of Bihar , which is prone to Floods and Droughts, is expected to benefit immensely from these Stations.
An AWS typically consists of a weather-proof enclosure containing the data logger, rechargeable battery, telemetry and the meteorological sensors with an attached solar panel or wind turbine and mounted upon a mast. The system may report in near real time or save the data for later recovery.
