More than 4 Lakh Women Directors on Board of Indian Companies

What may be seen as a major boost towards women empowerment in the country, more than 4 lakh woman Directors are serving on the Board of Indian Companies.

As per the data available in the MCA-21 system of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, as on 28.11.2013 there were 4,83,103 women directors on boards of corporate companies registered under the Companies Acts including government companies.

Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Sachin Pilot said that Section 149 of the Companies Act, 2013, inter-alia, provides for the prescribed class or classes of companies to have at least one woman director on their Boards.

Draft Rules indicating the class of companies which are mandated to have at least one Woman director on their respective Board have already been put in the public domain for comments of pubic before their finalization.
