The Famous Rajgir Mahotsav would be inaugurated by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on December 28, 2013 at Quila Maidan Rajgir.
It is one of the famous Festivals, organized by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation and Nalanda District Administration every year. Department of Tourism is planning to organize this event on large scale to attract more tourists to see cultural and historic values of Bihar. It would be constructing approx. 60 temporary stalls at the Mahotsav venue.
The Mahotsav would witness performances from Sufi artists and Traditional Classical dance forms. Noted Singers Kailash Kher, Kavita Seth and Bollywood Actor Sharman Joshi are expected to perform during the fest. Pakistani band Raga Boys and a dancing group from Sri Lanka will perform at the festival this year.
Rajgir Mahotsav’s history dates back to 1986 when Rajgir Nritaya (Dance) Mahotsav. In 1989 it was discontinued until its revival in 1994. Since then it has been organized yearly as Rajgir Mahotsav. Apart from cultural bonanza, it offer various sporting events like Tonga race, Martial Arts competition, Mehendi contest, Mahila utsav, Food plaza and Gramshree mela.
Tourists have numerous options to hangout in Rajgir before and after the Mahotsav. Tourists can also enjoy adventure sports and rides. There would be facilities of rock climbing, parasailing and paragliding at the hills of Rajgir. There is a ropeway for going to the top monasteries on hills.
