American Footballer Darren Sharper arrested on Rape Charges

Los Angeles: Former American Footballer Darren Sharper has been arrested on Rape Charges by Los Angeles County Sheriff. He was arrested on January 17 in 2 separate counts of sexual assault. The alleged incidents happened in October 2013 and January 2014.

His first court date is scheduled for February 14. He was released around midnight Saturday morning on $200,000 bond.

New Orleans Police Department said on Saturday it also is investigating an alleged sexual complaint filed Sept. 24, 2013 against Sharper.

Sharper aged 38, played in the National Football League (NFL) from 1997 to 2010. He played with Green Bay Packers (1997–2004), Minnesota Vikings (2005–2008) and New Orleans Saints (2009–2010).

After workouts with the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers without a contract offer, Sharper reportedly announced his retirement after a 14 year career. He finished with 63 career regular season interceptions, placing him sixth all time.

Sharper was selected All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times. He played in two Super Bowls, one with the Packers as a rookie and a second with the Saints after the 2009 season.

He has been working as an analyst for the NFL Network. NFL Network has suspended him without pay effective immediately until further notice.

“Darren has been suspended without pay until further notice, effective immediately,” said Alex Riethmiller, spokesman for NFL Network, in an email Saturday.
