Delhi Court orders FIR against Somnath Bharti after Midnight Raid

New Delhi: A Court in New Delhi has asked the Police to file FIR against Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti over the Midnight Raid on  at Khirki Extension area where several African Nationals were raided for allegedly running Drugs and Prostitution Racket. The Court passed the order under Section 156(3) of CrPC.

As per reports during the Raid which occurred on January 16 night,  an Ugandan woman was allegedly forced to give a urine sample in public for a drug test during the raid.

The Raid team led by AAP Minister Somnath Bharti alleged that some of the foreigners residing in the Khirki Extension area of South Delhi were running Sex and Drugs Business. They had acted on tipoff of local civilians.  However Delhi Police officials, which works under Union Ministry refused to conduct the raid when requested by the Minister.

However Ministry of External Affairs has different opinion on this incident. In a meeting with over 20 African envoys  it was conveyed that Indian Government at the highest levels was concerned about the incident which was “utterly condemnable’’ and “cannot be condoned’’. It also decided to establish a single-point office of the police commissioner specifically for complaints from foreigners.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid says that the incident was unacceptable. “I think it’s shocking, completely unconstitutional, unacceptable. I am worried about attitude here which just because you see someone different from you put label of worst kind of social evil on them. It’s completely unacceptable. What face will we show to the world that in India we have people with such narrow, such ridiculous way of treating foreigners.” Khurshid reportedly said.

Meanwhile, AAP Leaders have complained the inaction by Delhi Police to the Home Ministry and its Convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has decided to go on a Dharna in front of Home Ministry if no Action is taken against accused Police personnel.

Commenting on the Episode, Union Home Minister Sushil Shinde says, “Delhi Lieutenant Governor has already announced an inquiry into the matter raised by Aam Aadmi party leaders against Delhi police,”

“Delhi has a distinct character where Lt Governor and Chief Minister looks into the things. I am looking into the issue”.
