Kolkata: Bihar’s CM Nitish Kumar has announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the victim of dreaded Kolkata Gang Rape. The Victim’s Family hailed from Samastipur district of Bihar and her father works as a Taxi Driver in Kolkata

Nitish Kumar also asked IG in Bihar Police, GS Gangwar, to visit Kolkata and meet the family of the victim, and provide all possible help to them.

Gangwar was also asked to meet government officials in Kolkata and seek details of the case.

The Chief Minister has sent a cheque for Rs 1 lakh for the family of the victim as ex-gratia assistance, according to an official release.

The 16-year-old girl, who was gang raped twice in October last, died of burn injuries in a Calcutta hospital on December 31. Her family members claimed that the culprits had set her on fire.

Meanwhile, police in Calcutta have filed a murder case against the two main accused in the gang-rape.

Doctors who had been treating the teenager said she was pregnant at the time of her death.

The girl was first gang-raped on October 25 at Madhyamgram in the northern fringes of the city and found lying in a field near her house.

Then, the same gang abducted her when she was returning from a police station after filing a complaint, and gang-raped her again.

The severely injured girl was later found lying unconscious near the railway track at Madhyamgram the same day.

Her family shifted their residence from Madhyamgram to Dum Dum in the city, but a chance meeting revealed their new location to the rapists.

Six people were arrested after residents demanded immediate action against the gang, but the victim’s family members alleged that on December 23, a close associate of the gang leader Chottu had visited their Dum Dum residence and threatened them with dire consequences if the girl did not withdraw her complaint.

The girl received the fatal burn injuries the same day at her home.
