Asha Mirge, an NCP Leader and a member of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission triggered a controversy yesterday when she blamed women for rapes and other Sexual Crimes taking place in the country.
As per reports, she was speaking at a Meeting of her party’s women’s wing in Nagpur. When asked about the recent Nirbhaya Case, she remarked why did the 23-year-old medical student, who was gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi in December 2012, went out with her friend late at night.
Talking about Shakti Mills Incident she asked why did the victim go to such an isolated spot at 6 PM?”
She also warned Women to remain careful while dressing or moving out lest they invite such incidents.
Her Comments have not gone well with a section of Activists and Media and she has been receiving flak for her controversial comment.
Women’s organization AIDWA termed her unfit for her post, while her Party NCP has distanced itself from her opinion.
