What started as few random tweets from the official account of Indian Minister Shashi Tharoor to a Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar resulted in a war of words between Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor and Mehr.

The tweets from the timeline of Mr. Shashi Tharoor were deleted and he reported that his account was compromised.

Pakistani Journalist Mehr Tarar later issued several tweets expressing surprise over the tweets by Mr. Tharoor.

The whole controversy took a dramatic turn when Mrs. Sunanda P Tharoor accused Mehr Tarar of Stalking her Husband. Talking to a news channel, she said.
“Our accounts have not been hacked and I have been sending out these tweets. I cannot tolerate this. This is a Pakistani woman who is an ISI (Inter Services Intelligence) agent, and she is stalking my husband. And you know how men are. He is flattered by the attention. I took upon myself the crimes of this man during IPL (Indian Premier League). I will not allow this to be done to me. I just can’t tolerate this. I have nothing more to say,” she said, speaking on the phone.”
A Series of Tweet war ensued between Mrs. Tharoor and Mehr Tarar, which was often joined by several Indians and Pakistanis.

Mehr too responded to the tweet allegations by publishing her stand on NDTV Website, where she wished a long and happy married life to Tharoors. “I am not on BlackBerry messenger with him, so I was startled by his wife’s comments”, she remarked on the blog.
She also posted several tweets stating her side of story. Below are few of them.

For a woman to trash another woman linking her w/her husband is the lowest form of sickness ever. It’s nauseous. No respect for her marriage.
Meanwhile, Tharoor’s have issued a Statement on Facebook and Twitter in an attempt to diffuse the controversy. Below is the full text of Statement.
“We are distressed by the unseemly controversy that has arisen about some unauthorised tweets from our Twitter accounts.
Various distorted accounts of comments allegedly made by Sunanda have appeared in the press. It appears that some personal and private comments responding to these unauthorised tweets — comments that were not intended for publication — have been misrepresented and led to some erroneous conclusions.
We wish to stress that we are happily married and intend to remain that way. Sunanda has been ill and hospitalised this week and is seeking to rest. We would be grateful if the media respects our privacy”.
