International Sufi Festival to be held in Patna on February 7-9

Patna: The International Sufi and Folk Music Festival 2014 would be held in Patna on February 7-9. It would witness Sufi Participants from 6 Countries: including Denmark, Spain, Iran, Sweden, Bangladesh and Portugal. Sufi and Folk Singers from Bihar, West Bengal and Punjab would also perform during the 3 day Musical Festival.

The Festival would also witness performances by Khan brothers of Bihar, Baul Fakir of West Bengal and Ranjan Ali Kawwal Party of Punjab.

The inauguration ceremony would be held at S K Memorial Hall, Patna on February 7. CM Nitish Kumar is expected to be present during the event. On rest of the days, events would be organized at Premchand Rangasala, Rajendranagar.

Started in Kolkata in 2001 as Sufi Sutra, this festival has showcased the world’s best Sufi musicians. More than one hundred Sufi singers, dancers and musicians from different parts of the world celebrated the quest for the Divine through love.

“Six international teams and three national groups will participate,” said Amitava Bhattacharya, head of Banglanatak.com, which is one of the organizers. Banglanatak.com is a social enterprise working across India with a mission to foster pro-poor growth and protection of rights of women, children and indigenous communities.
