Seven sailors hurt in accident aboard submarine at Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 26 (IANS) At least seven Indian Navy personnel were injured in an accident aboard the INS Sindhuratna submarine off the Mumbai harbour, official sources said here Wednesday.

The accident took place in the early hours Wednesday, around 50 nautical miles off Mumbai in the Arabian Sea.

The injured sailors were airlifted and shifted in an unconscious state to the naval hospital, INS Asvini, in south Mumbai.

Details about what caused the accident were not available, but it is believed that a fire may have broken out aboard the vessel.

Another submarine, INS Sindhurakshak, a frontline Kilo class vessel, sank in the Mumbai harbour after a major fire Aug 14, killing the 18 crew members who were on board at the time.
