Congress denies introducing Reservations in Private Sector Jobs

New Delhi: The Congress Thursday clarified party vice president Rahul Gandhi’s statement on job reservation in the private sector, saying the party only wants the sector to provide jobs to 10 crore unemployed people.

Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha told the media that Rahul Gandhi and the party were batting for “affirmative action” and not reservation in the private sector.

“There is no question of reservation in private sector jobs, although we want the private sector to take ‘affirmative action’,” Jha said.

He said the Congress wants to provide jobs to 10 crore unemployed people. The private sector should take affirmative action towards this end.

Asked what this affirmative action will be and whether the private sector will be obliged to carry it out, Jha said such an affirmative action should be discussed with all political parties.

He added this will be voluntary not compulsory.
