New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee Saturday signed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation bill for bifurcating the southern state.
The bill, which was passed by parliament Feb 20 amid strong protests, will carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.
Mukherjee also gave his nod to imposing president’s rule in Andhra Pradesh as decided by the union cabinet Friday.
The Andhra Pradesh assembly, whose term was to end June 2, would now be in suspended animation.
There will be 13 districts in the residuary Andhra Pradesh while Telangana will have 10 districts, including Hyderabad.
