Actress Kalki Koechlin has stunned everyone with the revelation that she was sexually abused as a Child. Kalki was speaking  at a press conference organised by actor Rahul Bose’s NGO The Foundation towards the cause of preventing Child Sexual Abuse.
Later, talking to NDTV, Kalki revealed that she didn’t want to talk about it on a public platform. She said that a revelation like that just becomes like a “shocking headline” but somebody “who has gone through CSA (child sexual abuse) is not a headline.”

Talking cautiously she said, “The reason you haven’t heard about it is that I don’t like to talk about it. For me, it’s not a one day headline, it’s something that’s a reality I have lived with for a long time. Many of us have gone through it and most of the people that I know, especially close friends of mine who are women, have gone through some form of CSA (child sexual abuse). It’s just so out there, so much of it that I think it’s not something that should be ignored.”
“Right now 53% of the nation is going through CSA that’s more than half the country and that’s only the official statistic. I think there’s a lot more happening because we know in a lot of families we brush it under the carpet and because of social, cultural pressure we don’t talk about these things,†she further added.
She further  admitted that the incident of  abuse changed her as a person,  “It took me many, many years to even come and talk about it. It’s also how you choose to go ahead with it and what you choose to do with it. For me my writing and my art, my acting is therapeutic, it’s my way of releasing things out. I think everybody has different outlets as long as there are places where you can do that. Not everybody has privilege to talk about it openly.â€
