Mumbai: Abu Azmi’s daughter in Law Ayesha Takia and Son Farhan Azmi have condemned the remarks made by him about hanging of woman involved in affairs. His remarks came a day after  Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav made similar statement of No Death Penalty to rapists.
While Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said Thursday boys commit mistakes, but should not hang for rape, his party’s Maharashtra chief gave a new twist to the controversy Friday.
Agreeing with his party supremo, Azmi said: “…If any woman whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged. Both should be hanged.”
“if wot im reading about my father in laws statements r true then me and Farhan are deeply embarrassed n ashamed… We surely do nottt share this mindset…its disrespectful to women.if these statements r true then its sad,” Ayesha tweeted.
Abu Azmi’s Son Farhan Azmi also joined the condemnation bandwagon on Twitter: “Guys as far as I am concerned I have made myself more than clear. hang a rapist a 100 times & give me the duty to do so. I will do it for free. Spoke 2 my father about his comments. In my opinion on the topic of RAPE only 1 statement must b given without any explanation-hang da rapist. My seniors including my father share the same opinion but when they start explaining themselves, they fall in the trap of the Journalists. Objectionable!! Condemnable!! Embarrassed!!”.
Farhan is is Samajwadi Party’s Lok Sabha candidate from Mumbai North Central.
“Abu Azmi’s comment was also highly derogatory. Actually they don’t understand young people’s lifestyle. People should boycott them and the National Commission for Women should take up the issue and file an FIR against Azmi for making such ridiculous comments,” she added.
All India Women’s Congress (AIWC) president Shobha Oza said it was unfortunate that politicians talk in such an “insensitive” manner on issues related to women.
“It is very unfortunate that they talk in such an insensitive manner on grave issues like rape. One should abstain from handling issues like heinous crimes like rape in such a manner,” Oza said.
