Tripoli: Jordanian Ambassador to Libya Fawaz Aitan, who was kidnapped last month, has been released, a Libyan security source confirmed Tuesday.
He is now on his way back to Jordan.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said Tuesday that the ambassador was in good condition and was expected to arrive in Jordan soon, Xinhua reported.
Aitan was abducted by unidentified gunmen April 15 from near the Jordanian embassy in Tripoli. Since then, the Jordanian and Libyan governments have been holding high-level negotiations to secure the release of the envoy.
Jordan has released Mohammed Darsi, a Libyan militant, who was arrested in 2007, in exchange for Aitan.
