The Biography of Maryam Nawaz Sharif

Maryam Nawaz Sharif played an important role in scripting the recent bilateral ties of India-Pakistan. She is the daughter of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and currently serves as the Chairperson of Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. Below is a short Biography of her.

She was born on 28 October 1973 in Lahore, Punjab province of Pakistan. After graduating from Convent of Jesus and Mary school, she pursued her undergraduate studies at Punjab University, and also earned a master’s degree from the same institution. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Cambridge University. She has worked vital role in the establishment of higher education in Punjab and serves as the chairman of the board of the Sharif Medical and Dental College.

Maryam Nawaz belongs to the business cum political Sharif family of Pakistan. She is the granddaughter of Muhammad Sharif, an industrialist and philanthropist. She is the eldest daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the niece of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and wife of retired army captain Muhammad Safdar. She did her schooling from Convent of Jesus and Mary school in Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz has since 1997 been the chairperson of Sharif Trust, founded by her grandfather Muhammad Sharif, Sharif Medical City and Sharif Education Institutes. She takes a keen interest and is directly involved in the working of Sharif Trust and its allied institutions including Sharif College of Engineering & Technology, Sharif Education Complex, Sharif Model Schools for Boys & Girls, Sharif Institute of Technology and Islamic Center.

In the April 2012 article in Newsweek Pakistan, Maryam Nawaz was described as the new face of the PML-N political party. She is Fluent in four languages and is the heir apparent her father’s PML-Nawaz party. She has announced her intention to participate in politics in order to assist her father. She was has now been appointed as Chairperson of the newly launched Rs100 billion Youth Business Loan scheme by her father Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
