The recent controversy shrouding NGO Greenpeace might just prove to be a setback to the booming NGO sector of India. NNIS got in touch with Senior Journalist, Mani to get an insight into his views on whether the leaked IB reports indicate that the government is planning to curb the freedom of expression which the NGOs enjoy.
According to reports the Home Ministry has instructed the RBI to ensure that the donations to the two Greenpeace NGOs are cleared only after they seek due permissions.
Mani feels that this controversy is politically motivated and the government wants to control the functioning of the NGOs in the country through this move. Mani stated that Greenpeace is an international NGO which enjoys a lot of trustworthiness across the globe for the excellent body of work. He added that Narendra Modi led government is unfairly targeting the organization.
