Hitting back at the Congress over criticism hurled at the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre over rail price hike, saffron party leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that it was the Congress-led UPA which had approved the hike in the interim budget and not the BJP. Hussain, however, said that the hike was necessary for the railways to grow economically and develop in terms of facilities.

Hussain said the passenger and the freight fare had not been increased for years and that is the reason why railways was running at a loss. He added, to boost up security systems and provide better and stronger railway tracks a price hike was needed.
