Minister of state for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman while addressing a press conference in Chennai said that the government will find a permanent solution over the frequent arrests of Indian fishermen by the Srilankan navy.

Sitharaman said that the external affair minister Sushma Swaraj is unhappy with the current situation and has assured a long term solution on this issue.

She added that the NDA government had taken charge only recently and they needed to review this issue in greater depth before coming up with an effective answer for this problem.
During her visit to Chennai, Sitharaman did not meet Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa and when asked about the reason for doing so, Sitharaman said that she was here with the agenda of meeting the industry groups. She firmly asked the media not to read more into this issue as she had met Jayalalithaa just a few days ago.
